Ingredients

General

  • 2 lbs (900g) ground turkey
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons fresh minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning blend
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red chili pepper flakes
  • 1 cup Marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • fresh basil or parsley

Instructions

  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 400ºF (200ºC). Lightly spray a casserole dish with cooking spray.

  2. Step 2

    Combine ground turkey, mozzarella, parmesan, egg, onion powder, garlic, Italian seasoning, Cayenne, and chili flakes in a large bowl. Form meatballs and arrange in the casserole dish.

  3. Step 3

    Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through. Remove and drain grease.

  4. Step 4

    Top with marinara sauce and shredded cheese. Bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until cheese is melted.

    Serve with a side salad or over zucchini noodles.

Additional Notes

Ground beef and Italian sausage can be substituted for ground turkey. A high-quality store-bought marinara sauce is recommended, but any variety can be used. This recipe is adaptable to a slow cooker; cook on low for 6 hours.
